В англійській мові існують так звані синтаксичні комплекси, тобто з'єднання двох або декількох слів, які являють собою єдине синтаксичне ціле. Найбільш поширеним синтаксичним комплексом є складний додаток.
Складний додаток може включати в собі прямий додаток + інфінітив і означає одноразову дію:
I want you to visit me in the evening.
Після слів see, hear, watch, make, feel, let, notice, observe в складному додатку інфінітив вживається без часточки to.
My father made Nick carry this box away.
I saw her enter the room.
Складний додаток,що означає процес дії , вживається з дієсловом з закінченням – ing:
We watched them playing football.
Complex Objectвживається після дієслів, що виражають припущення:
Complex Objectвживається після дієслів, що виражають наказ, прохання, дозвіл, пораду:
Complex Objectвживається в таких конструкціях:

Exercise 8. Перепишіть речення та підкресліть Complex Object. Перекладіть речення українською мовою:

Exercise 10 . Перефразуйте речення, використовуючи складний додаток з дієприкметником:
1. He saw two girls. They were dancing on the stage. 2. She watched the children. They were running and playing in the garden. 3. We saw our neighbor. He was listening to the latest news on the radio. 4. They were fishing. We saw it. 5. The pupils were writing a test paper. The teacher watched them. 6. I heard him. He was singing an English song. 7. We saw Ben. He was crossing the square. 8. You and your friend were walking the street. I saw you. 9. The ship was leaving the port. He stood and looked at it. 10. They were talking about computers. He heard them.
Exercise 11. Translate the following sentences, paying attention to the verb-forms in the Passive Voice:
1. When the molecules of even a good insulator are acted upon by an electric field, there is a motion of electrons due to this field.
2. The possibility of a break-down of an insulator which is referred to in the above article is due to high voltage.
3. The exact operation of some devices cannot be much relied upon due to their being slightly influenced by the changes in the ambient temperature.
4. If the electron is allowed to go back to the atom the balance of charge is restored and the atom is again uncharged or neutral.
5. The conclusions which were arrived at by the experimenter fill the demands of the present state of technical development.
