Procedures concerning sludge: * collection of oil residues ( entries in ORB under the code C I 1.1 and code C 11.2); * disposal - to reception facilities ( entry in ORB under the code C 12.1); - transfering to another tank ( entry in ORB under the code C 12.2), - draining water from sludge tank into another tank ( entry in ORB under the code C 12.2), - burning in incinerator or auxilary boiler ( entry in ORB under the code C 12.3); dry (hard) sludge disposal must be entered in ORB under the code "I".
Prior sludge disposal to the reception facilities: *Chief-Engineer Officer delegates persons who will be stationed at the: - manifold, - engine room tanks. *Fourth- Engineer Officer assists the Chief-engineer. *Before action : - deck scuppers and drain holes must be plugged; - there is a continuous watch keep on the manifold; - equipment is ready for use (blanks, joints) - sludge discharge manifold spill tray must be clean and dry, free of water or snow: - arrangements for fire watch and oil spill contingency equipment at stand by position; - oil absorbents (sand, rolls, pads) has been placed at strategic position on the deck and at manifolds where the oil spill may be occured; - sludge discharge line hose must be reliably joined and fixed.
Fourth- Engineer Officer asks a permission from the officer in a charge for sludge discharge.

* After sludge discharge accenting the following: - do not disconnect sludge discharge line until it has been blown through and drained and all manifold valves have been secure closed; - property clean spill trays from oil residues; - receive a certificate or a receipt from reception facilities operator on sludge discharge , including the information on quantity, date and time of discharge.
* Fourth-Engineer Officer responsible for sludge discharge makes entries in Oil Record Book Part 1.
